Hadley-James Hoyles

I come from a beautiful little town called Skipton, in North Yorkshire, and I moved to Edinburgh in 2014, gaining a couple of degrees, two cats and a wife, and becoming an adoptive Leither. My poetry is informed by the interests that pull me hither and thither; I move through fixations and adventures on and as and when basis, then reflect much of them in my poetry. 

I am also interested in the capacity for poetry to act as an archiver and an encoder, building selfhood far beyond the inordinate modern focus on the individual, and looking further into how our selfhood is inflected by the places we go, the landscapes that shelter us, and the myths which nourish our spirits. 

My poetry has been widely published, and my two collections, Ginnel and Snicket and A Ministry of Light, have both been well received in the UK and further afield. 

I am also an events organiser, being the founder and father of The Alcove: Poetry in Edinburgh, which holds events throughout the year showcasing new talent and welcoming famous names alike to the stage.
